7 Rainy Day Activities to Play with Your Dog

Are you getting very anxious about your dog’s health when it is wet outside? Yeah, I know it is normal because on a rainy day it is often difficult for him to go outside for playing and relaxing himself.

But there are so many dog activities which will keep him active and healthy physically and mentally on a rainy day.

Look at the following issues about rainy day dog activities carefully to learn some tricks and activities in detail.

#1 Teach him New Tricks or Brush up the Old Ones

If you are teaching some commands to your dog for a few days then on rainy day since both of you cannot go out, you can brush up the old techniques which you are teaching them. You can also do a thing and that is, you can teach him some new commands or training.

Working on this dog activity he will probably tired pretty soon because this training will held inside your house.

If you do this, outside wetness will not be able to waste your one day and your puppy will also be able to exercise himself to eliminate his extra energy.

This dog activity will help him to learn something new and also keep him healthy mentally and physically.

#2 Food Dispensing Toys

This is a great dog activity for the rainy season. You will find different types of food dispensing toys in the pet store such as Kong which is the most popular food dispensing toy.

And it is not only useful for a rainy day dog activity but also you can use it anytime when your dog get hyper. You need to only put some tasty foods inside the toy and let him to roll it all around the rooms until he gets tired and nothing left inside.

This will do two works for him, one he will get enough exercise to eliminate his extra energy and the other is it’ll distract his mind also.

#3 Spend Time on Grooming

It’ll be a great dog activity on a rainy day when you will spend time together for grooming him. Your one or two hours of time will simply go away if you decide to groom him on this wet weather.

You can think it as a spa day! You can give him/her a blueberry facial, doggie nail polish or exfoliating herbal bath. To look him/her best here’s what you need to do.

    > Brush: You need a pin or bristled brush for short hair and a soft slicker brush or metal brush for long and thick hair coats. You need to brush his coat before bathing to remove dead hair and tangles.

    > Shampoo: Don’t ever use human shampoo for him because it dries out a dog’s coat and skin. So always use a branded shampoo which is actually made for the pets and also contain fewer ingredients.

    > Nail Trimmer: For decorating your puppy’s nail use a nail trimmer. You have to cut his nail every three to four weeks. You can also use a dremel which is a motorized grinder for cutting his nail.

#4 Fetch the Halls

It’s a very interesting dog activity to play the fetch game inside your home on a rainy day. But for this you need a large hallway.

Then you need to clear all the obstacles in the hallway and have to make this space perfect for dog run.

You have to give him a toy or ball and free him in the hallway.

This dog activity will help you to make him happy in this rainy season and also help him to burn off his extra calories. In fact, hallway is the best option for playing the fetch game with a favorite toy or ball.

#5 Play Hide and Seek

Among all the rainy day dog activities you can play the hide and seek game trick your dog easily. Even your family members can also join with both of you.

You and your family members will hide and he will find every one of you by using his nose. Isn’t it interesting? Yeah, it’ll be a very good exercise for him. You can also hide different types of tasty treats at different places in your house.

But please put the treats only on the floor because if you put them on a higher place he will not be able to find out the treats.

#6 Doga can be Effective

Doga is a commonly called name of an exercise among the rainy day dog activities. It is a combination of dog training and yoga. It has the same benefit of yoga.

But this exercise is not only for you but also for your dog to which will keep both of you healthy physically and mentally. Though yoga is an ancient exercise but doga brings you exercises with some modern twist.

In this rainy day dog activity you need to put him in the same position as you do. It will increase flexibility, energy, strength and endurance of both of you.

You can easily practice this at home on a rainy day by playing doga DVD’s. You can purchase doga DVD’s from online or any DVD store. You will actually find this DVD in the name of ‘Yoga DVD for Dog and their People.

#7 Go Outside If Possible

After doing the above rainy day dog activities if you see that still he is full of energy then it’s time to go out. Don’t be afraid because they are waterproof!

So don’t let this little rain stay him in the home. Put a raincoat over him and also you and go outside for wandering.

But though he is waterproof don’t try this when it’s raining cats and dogs because if get wet heavily then it can be the cause of his sickness. So be aware.

 

The world is not always ideal for us and when harsh weather hits it makes quiet impossible for us to go outside to train our little fury friend.

But don’t let a little rain stop you and your dog. There are many types of rainy day dog activities like games and exercises which you can use to keep him active, fit and healthy.

And you have also many ideas now which are explained above. A young puppy needs at least 30 minutes training every day and you have to train him anyhow and what the weather is. So from now when it’ll start raining, you can start training!
